The Lighthouse School
The Lighthouse School opened its doors in 2005 with 67 students in grades one through three. Enrollment has more than tripled since then to over 200 students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Over two thirds of the children attending the Lighthouse School receive tuition assistance through a child sponsorship program. Since its beginning the school has been committed to serving and assisting those in need and has become a well-known and well-respected part of the Gaza community.
Kindergarten
The Lighthouse Kindergarten opened in 2006 with twenty-two students and three teachers. Today in a newly renovated building the program has expanded to include eighty children, ages four to five, and nine staff members.
The majority of children in Gaza do not attend kindergarten because of the cost of tuition and fees. UNICEF estimates that less than 30 % of children in Gaza are able to attend a preschool or kindergarten program. The Lighthouse Kindergarten was established to help these children and their families by providing tuition assistance through a child sponsorship program.
