'Breaking' in the New School Year 2023

What an unusual beginning to the new school year. Gaza presents numerous challenges and the Lighthouse School has faced many over the past 19 years. The Lord’s goodness and faithfulness has enabled the light to continue to shine through all the difficulties, and this year 2023 was no different. Shortly before the staff returned from summer break to prepare for the new year, our school principal broke his ankle playing football. The break was severe and required surgery, leaving him unable to lead the staff and welcome the students back to school in late August. The staff stepped up to the challenge, demonstrated remarkable teamwork and shouldered the responsibility in the principal’s absence. Over 240 students returned for year #19 and everything was ready to go. It was an unusual start to what will be a great school year. Our director is still unable to be at school full-time. Shortly after his injury on the football pitch, his five year old son had an accident on the stairs at church…”like father, like son.” Thankfully both are healing well and expected to make a full recovery.

The students are excited to be back at the Lighthouse and looking forward to welcoming their principal back in early October.
